City College Norwich recognised with Beacon Award for work with

City College Norwich recognised with Beacon Award for work with autism students


City College Norwich happens to be recognised and rewarded for the make use of autism students, with the Beacon Award, coming from the Association of Colleges (AoC).


The award for Widening Participation acknowledges the workundertaken to build up a social learning space, RUGRoom (Really Useful Group), for individuals with Asperger’s Syndrome.


Dick Palmer, Principal at City College Norwich, explained: -We won on account of the fantastic work our staff in Foundation Studies of their support of students with Autistic Spectrum Disorders (ASD), particularly Aspergers. The RUGroom students (and after this, needless to say, the institution) has won a Beacon Award for Widening Participation, to become this award can be described as national recognition from the wonderful work we undertake in this area.-


Funded by its Learning and Skills Council in 2007, arises from also enables students to socialise, relax and chat with their support.


Students from City College added, -I feel well informed since I’ve been socialising within the RUGroom as well as have had the opportunity to force friends but I’m able to handle meeting people more suitable. I want arriving at college, in class I gained no GCSE‘s and was used in a location with staff who couldn’t understand Asperger’s, or understand how to address my needs, and so I will be finally enjoying education-.
